Annual Reports on Your Phone with the Stox App
If you are like most value investors, you love to read annual reports and 10-Qs. I know, we are a strange breed. Here’s a great free app on the iTunes Store called Stox – Financial Reports that helps you take financial reports on the go.
The app has a very clean interface. When you open it up, you get this screen here. It includes a search box, popular reports, and a watch list. I really like that you search via ticker, but it would also be nice if you could search by company name. At first I though you couldn’t, but then I typed in “McCormick” and I found MKC. Nice!
The search screen is also simple to use. If you look at the screen shot to the right, you’ll see my search for MKC. If you click on the blue “+” the stock is added to the watch list. I assume that will alert me to new filings. If I click on MKC, I’m taken to the detailed stock screen.
The individual stock page displays a basic quote chart at the top that you can adjust the time period from 1-day to 5-years or all. Below that is a menu where you can select the reports you want to read. It features 10-K, 10-Q, and 8-K reports in separate tabs.
I decided to take a look at the 10-K. I loaded very quickly. I was surprised given how large those documents are. Scrolling through it was a breeze. I just wish there was links to send you to different sections of the document. The financial tables were very nicely formatted.
I also loaded up a recent 10-Q filing. Here’s a screen shot that shows you how tables appear. You can swipe to the right to see the table columns for previous quarters. I also noticed in the 10-Q that there actually was a table of contents where you could click to jump to various sections of the document.
I hope you find this tool useful. What other research tools do you love using? Please share them in the comments section below.
