Future of the Carnival of Investing
The Carnival of Investing may potentially not happen this week. I think we need to take action now to preserve this great blogosphere resource.
Retire At 30 founded this great carnival in December of 2005. He did a great job getting it off the ground and rolling. However, for the past few months, the archive page of the Carnival of Investing has not been updated.
In addition, the email address for the Carnival of Investing is not getting properly forwarded each week. When I lasted hosted this Carnival, I wasn’t properly receiving submissions and then when the problem was resolved I kept receiving submissions for the next two weeks, while the carnival hosts weren’t getting any submissions. Canadian Capitalist also noticed the same problem with the Carnival of Investing email address not working last week when he hosted the carnival.
I have also have notice that both of the Retire at 30 sites have not been updated since February of 2006. I believe that this inactivity has really hurt the promotion of the Carnival of Investing. I think a new Carnival of Investing caretaker who is a more active poster will help to promote the weekly Carnival of Investing.
Given all this, here is what I propose. I think that the Carnival of Investing should get a new home. I believe that all past hosts who are interested should have a chance at housing this carnival. Then we should all vote on where the Carnival of Investing archive and schedule should be relocated to. Please share your thoughts on this proposal below.
If you are interested in housing the Carnival of Investing and I think at a minimum you should have been a past host. Please post your interest below in the comments section. (I should note that I am interested in hosting the Carnival of Investing.) I would also like help in promoting this article so that everyone knows what is going on. I’ll try to send out a mass email today to all former hosts, and I’ll try to get the word out by submitting this article to the Carnival of Personal Finance and Carnival of the Capitalists.
Finally, I’m also looking for suggestions for a good free polling service in order to conduct the vote. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. I’m trying out Ballot-Box.net for the poll below. Please try it out by voting.
I think the Carnival of Investing should simply be killed off and a new investing carnival started in its place by whomever gets it up first! It’ll be up to everyone else if they want to participate in the new one or not; or if multiple people start one up, they can fight to the death and the winner becomes the new Carnival of Investing.
I agree with Nick. Since it has effectively died off, then someone else could just start one up. Then again, this could create problems with Blog Carnival and Conservative Cat unless it launched under a new name (unless you can get those forms re-directed). I guess whoever can get Retire at 30 to hand over the keys should get to take it over. And since you (George) cared enough to ask, then if it comes to a vote, my vote is for you.
Mymoneyblog got Retire at 30 to had over the keys. Given that only 14 people voted in the poll, I think it is not worth me putting any more effort on this issue.
I guess at this point I just need to step aside. I think I’m going to focus on making Fat Pitch News an alternative outlet for bloggers that want to distribute their investment articles. The cool think about Fat Pitch News is that reader feedback helps sort the list of articles so you can focus on the most best and most relevant stories.
